Why it matters
Released 8 November 2011 on Mexican Summer and Software, his own imprint with Joel Ford, and his first album made in a formal studio. Wikipedia describes it as building on Eccojams Vol. 1 — but discusses it without reference to vaporwave at all. That absence is the point: this is where Lopatin's own career goes, running alongside a genre he had accidentally supplied a method to. It reached 80/100 on Metacritic and later placed 20th on Pitchfork's 50 best ambient albums.
