Rehabilitating the soundtracks nobody counted

FM Skyline

Curry works in the polished, original-production end of later vaporwave rather than the sampled end, which is unusual enough in itself.

His stated subject is rehabilitation. "One theme in Vaporwave I've loved and focused on as FM Skyline is looking at things that aren't normally considered 'good' or 'valid' music elsewhere" — naming Jan Hammer's Beyond the Mind's Eye soundtrack, the 1988 Appleseed OAV, Final Fantasy VII, and library music by composers such as Geoffrey Bastow.

That is the genre's original argument stated plainly: the material everyone agreed was disposable turns out to be the material worth working with.
