Eyeliner
Rowell is a New Zealand electronic musician from Lower Hutt who had been recording as Disasteradio since the early 2000s. He created the Eyeliner pseudonym in 2012 specifically to work in vaporwave, and has released five albums under it.
BUY NOW (2015) came out on Beer on the Rug — the same netlabel that had put out Floral Shoppe four years earlier. It is described as epitomising a new kind of album for the internet age: made DIY, all digital, free, Creative Commons licensed, released to a virtual community with no geographic centre.
The material is the faux-corporate MIDI register — glossy, plastic, cheerful — which is the hardest strain of the aesthetic to place, because it sounds like the advertising rather than a comment on it.
