Everything points back here. Langley has spent two decades behind stacked aliases — Macintosh Plus, PrismCorp Virtual Enterprises, New Dreams Ltd., 情報デスクVIRTUAL — and had already put out roughly forty releases before the one that defined a subculture. She started in 2005 as a teenager working in breakcore and digital hardcore, having, by her own account, "more or less been the 'weird kid who is way too into computers'" her whole life.
Floral Shoppe arrived on 9 December 2011 under the one-off alias Macintosh Plus, on the Kansas netlabel Beer on the Rug: a Helios bust over pink Japanese lettering and tiled floor, voices slowed to wordless drawls, tempos abused at whim. Its second track — a chopped-and-screwed reworking of Diana Ross's "It's Your Move", titled リサフランク420 / 現代のコンピュー — remains the single most recognisable piece of music the genre has produced. Pitchfork reassessed the record at 8.8 in 2019, eight years late.
Langley never took the career the record offered. Regular releases stopped by 2013, with occasional returns since — cRASH 2: Mac +/- in 2024. Her Bandcamp bio states she is "working on the new MacPlus album currently", which is as close to a comeback as vaporwave's founding artist has come.
