George Clanton
Most of the genre is allergic to sincerity and to live performance. Clanton is the exception on both counts. He recorded as Mirror Kisses and ESPRIT 空想 before adopting his own name for 2015's 100% Electronica, largely because he had tired of saying "Mirror Kisses" out loud. "I write great pop songs that are representative of an emotion that I actually feel," he has said — hazy, shoegaze-inflected electropop aimed at real nostalgia rather than commentary on it.
The larger contribution is infrastructural. He founded the label 100% Electronica in 2015 with musician Lindsey French (Neggy Gemmy), and in 2019 launched 100% ElectroniCON, generally described as the first vaporwave festival. Its 2025 Brooklyn edition — which he organised, booked and headlined — sold out the whole of Elsewhere, and was covered as the moment an online genre finally got a room.
He played that show a month after breaking his ankle jumping off a stage in Denver. He finished the set, went to the emergency room, kept touring in a wheelchair, and crowd-surfed again in Brooklyn.
