Blank Banshee
Driscoll performs behind a mask and did not know what vaporwave was when he released his debut. He had just moved from New Brunswick to Vancouver: "vaporwave was not on my radar at all… And it was during my stay at a hostel in Victoria, B.C., that I discovered vaporwave shortly after I released Blank Banshee 0… so I tagged it vaporwave on Bandcamp just in case, and the rest is history."
The record — uploaded over free hostel Wi-Fi — fused vaporwave's sample haze with trap drum programming, and the hybrid took its own name: vaportrap. Where Vektroid and Lopatin worked in pitch-shifted loops, Driscoll built beat-forward tracks that could move a room, which dragged the genre out of headphone territory. His track "Teen Pregnancy" seeded the 2016 S U N D A Y S C H O O L video that launched Simpsonwave.
He has since moved away from sampling entirely — "as any musician would, I've tried to evolve as an artist" — releasing Mega (2016), Gaia (2020) and 4D (2023) on his own label, Hologram Bay, which he runs with his girlfriend Erica and keeps pay-what-you-want "because I come from the Napster generation".
